Why travelling can be a waste of time?

Tourism is a travel without real purpose, the concept only emerged just a few decades
ago. In the ealier eras, only rich or aristocracy were able to afford to travel the world.
In ealier centuries, travelers were always on a mission. The pilgrims for example,
wanted to find salvation. People only start to travel for fun from 18th century.
However, travelling becomes a waste of time when it’s done without purpose. An
impulsive trip without planning itinerary, it could easily become an unfulfulling and
expensive experience.
Social media has turned travelling into a cult, featuring chic pictures of young people
standing on the edge of waterfalls, tell that life is only worth living if we travel, also
make it seem half of your friends are aspiring digital nomads. We should never feel
the pressure to travel.Travelling has been sensationlised. The truth is at the end of the
day no one cares you’ve been 30 countries by 30.
Plus travel isn’t always glamorous. When people talk about travel, you only hear
about beautiful scenery. But you don’t hear about being in a country where you don’t
like the food, or where locals are hostile, or being in a location that is not being
particularly safe. Let’s admit it, it is not a particularly pleasant experience I’m talking
about corssing time zones in that cramped plane and throwing circadian rhythems
into chaos for days, let’s picture the scenario after you get off your plane, you need to
figure out where your bags are, and the way to your hotel. You also have to grapple
with the difficulty of understanding the ways of a culture that is different from your
own, and odds are there might also be language barriers. That’s why travel can be
grueling, stressful and demanding, it takes tremendous mental fortitude to plan and
execute. There are other reasons people travel, travelling to run away from the reality
to escape, but it is not going to fix the problems you leave behind. Or you just have
spare money and don’t know whatelse to do with it, Travelling for a sight seeing it is
certainly overrated, it won’t have a lasting impact on you, it is not going to be the
best use of your time and money.
However, this doesn’t apply to travel for business or to see family or friends. You only
start wasting your money and time when you forget why you’re even stepping on to
the plane, it’s only when you’re travelling for the sake of travel. Travelling can also be
a waste of time if you’re already satisfied with your current lifestyle. Some people are
obssessed with incessent travellings, because they don’t have anything worth doing or
they have or want YOLO through their mediocre lives.
However it’s not about the periodic vacation are always bad, taking a week or two a
year can be a great way to break from routine which is proven can make you more
productive and healthy. If you travel with purpose, with a particular goal in mind, like
self-improvement travelling can be an investment in yourself.
Ultimately, travelling can be a great chance to get some perspective and clarity, and
can be rewarding if you travel with purpose. Hence, how much you get out of a trip
will depend on how much effort you put into the planning and execution.
