Types of Architecture Diagrams

Type 1

Planimetric | views of buildings as seen from above without precise scales.

Type 2

Sectional| show the interior details of a building by slicing through it vertically. Not used as instruction only as simple representation.

Type 3

Axonometric | 3D overview of the house

Type 4

Circulation|shows the movement of users around a space

Type 5

Structural | shows the physical structure of a building and invisible forces such as tension and compression act on the structure of the building.

Type 6

Sequential|shows each step of a process

Type 7

Euclidean| shows elements of buildings arranged so that none can be moved without the adjacent elements being impacted.

Type 8

Visual field| place lines inside a ‘cone’ to give an insight into users’ perception of a building or space.

Type 9

Parti| the most abstract of all architectural diagrams, may be considered generative.
